J Tily architect RIBA January 2007 to Present Foster and Partners, London May 2002 - June 2006 Job description: Architect Projects included: GOGGS East (Government Offices, Great George Street, East Wing)Phase II of the restructuring of Her Majesty’s Treasury, London, UK. 2002 - 04I was involved in the second phase of the restructuring of Her Majesty’s Treasury, a Grade II* listed building, to provide the headquarters for HM Revenue and Customs. (Together, the first and second phases provide a new shared home for HM Treasury and HM Revenue and Customs.) Value: £148 million. HM Treasury Central Courtyard My responsibilities included liaison between English Heritage, Westminster City Council and the Design Team to achieve Planning Approval and Listed Building Consent and co-ordination with the Conservation Architect of the detail design of work to the existing elevations and historic fabric. Areas of design requiring close consultation with English Heritage and Westminster City Council included a new zone of floor space at roof level to provide offices, arranged around the central courtyard; and a new entrance at street level to improve disabled access. New zone of floor space at roof level Areas of design I was responsible for included the refurbishment and new elements in the Churchill Room and other Fine Rooms, the architecturally significant offices and conference rooms. New audio visual, acoustic treatment, heating, lighting, IT and communications were integrated into the historic fabric. HM Treasury Churchill Room I managed the collating of information from the Design Team to produce ‘Spatial Data Sheets’ for each room or space in the building which allowed all the specifications about a room to be accessed electronically and interactively in one easy to find location and facilitated the checking of compliance with the brief. This was integrated with a coding system for all materials, systems and finishes used throughout the project. HM Treasury Fine Room GOGGS East was a regional winner in the British Council for Offices awards 2005 for a refurbished / recycled workplace. Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, USA. MasterplanI was involved in Phase 1 of the masterplan, to provide new galleries, temporary exhibition, study centre and administration areas. I was responsible for Code compliance for Phase 1, including co-ordination with the local Boston based architects and the design development of the North and South Pavilions comprising the education centre, auditorium, galleries and administrative offices. Santa Giulia Housing Project, Milan, ItalyThe project comprises eight housing blocks arranged around a public open space. I was responsible for Building 2 up to Definitivo (Detail design) stage, comprising 73 apartments arranged over eight levels and an underground car park. DLG Architects, London December 1996 - April 2002 Job description: Job Architect Projects included: Broadway Plaza, BirminghamA mixed use scheme comprising 12 screen multiplex cinema, health club, bowling, restaurants, retail units, residential accommodation, public plaza and underground car park. The complex opened in August 2003. Value: £60 million. Broadway Plaza mixed use development Health Club/retail units within former Birmingham Children's Hospital My responsibilities included co-ordination between Birmingham City Council Building Control Department and the Design Team regarding building control issues and the acoustic and fire engineering strategies. AMC Cinema/retail units and plaza I also worked on the AMC cinema building which has auditoria on two levels and an atrium entrance foyer. AMC Cinema atrium Typical auditorium Hayle Harbour Masterplan, Hayle, CornwallA masterplan for 1.5 million square feet of development incorporating a new harbour area and uses such as residential, retail, leisure, offices, live/work spaces, light industrial and a marina. The plan also incorporates public open spaces and a key civic building at the focus of the development. I was responsible, under the partner in charge, for the project following outline planning permission including the development of the masterplan to integrate areas of industrial heritage, listed structures and Sites of Special Scientific Interest. Alterations at the Observatory Shopping Centre, SloughHolmes Place health club, completed 1998.The Observatory Shopping Centre, Slough TK Maxx ‘anchor’ retail unit, completed 1997.The Observatory Shopping Centre, Slough Frederick Burn David Cook Associates, London September 1993 - November 1996 Job description: Architect Alterations and improvements to various residential apartments in listed historic houses including Great Maytham Hall, Kent (Grade II*), Albury Park, Surrey (Grade II*) and Greathed Manor, Surrey (Grade II).My responsibilities included running projects from inception to completion. Extension to a private house in Berkhamsted, Hertfordshire. |
